Zombie AI Game

So far this game is just an idea, though I've started work on different bits of it at different types. The premise of the game is the trusty old 'Zombies have risen and are eating the population', but the gameplay isn't typical. In fact, I'm not even sure if it's going to have much in the way of gameplay, or just be more of an entertaining little toy.

As I currently envision it, a randomly generated map would be populated with a large number of zombies, and a small number of survivors. They are all controlled completely by the computer, and the fun comes from watching the AI either take out all the zombies and survive, or be killed. Each survivor would have different attributes and would start at different points on the map, and would have to find weapons and other items to help survive. If they find each other, they might stick together and help each other out, or they might just kill each other, depending on their personality attributes.

The zombies would tend to flock together and are obviously quite stupid, but their advantage is in the numbers. If a survivor is turned into a zombie, they might end up having more powerful attributes than the rest.

Now, this game is very much in the ideas stage, and as yet I haven't gotten into any heavy coding (or even decided what language I'm going to do it in). So far I've done some work in Java2D for the graphics, and then I switched over to .NET and did some work on flocking behaviours which I'll probably use as a basis for the AI movements. I got to the stage of pathfinding and got frustrated, and haven't gone back since (plus the fact that I got a new job moved me away from learning .NET).

I'm considering looking at Flash programming as well, as that might take the load off some of the graphics stuff and allow me to concentrate on the AI, which is where my real interest lies.
